On 10.15.24, I had the pleasure of joining the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce on the "Seeing is Believing" tour with the Clarke County School District. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn firsthand about the progress happening within our local schools.
Dr. Robbie Hooker, the CCSD Superintendent, gave an encouraging update on the improved school scores and performance across Clarke County—truly impressive to hear. Our tour took us to Clarke Central High School, where we spoke with the principal, followed by a visit to J.J. Harris Elementary to observe how 1st and 2nd graders are engaging in their learning environment.
We ended the day at the Athens Community Career Academy, and I was thoroughly impressed. ACCA offers an exceptional experience for all CCSD high school students, providing opportunities to take college-level courses, earn career-focused certifications, and gain real-world experience through internships. As a partnership between the Clarke County School District, Athens Technical College, and the University of Georgia, it’s no surprise that ACCA was named Georgia’s College and Career Academy of the Year in 2014.
Overall, the day was insightful and inspiring. It was incredible to see the progress within our schools and the emphasis on safety and innovation throughout the district. Clarke County schools are clearly moving in the right direction.
